Philodendron NOID - 'Dark/Black Billietiae' - A

This plant goes under the name Dark or Black Billietiae. They are more commonly sold as a Philodendron Atabapoense x Billietiae hybrid, but this is unlikely to be the case. 

The Atabap x Billietiae hybrid is still unconfirmed, and something about the name just seemed off while investigating the history  online. In 2023, Joep Moonen wrote an article for the International Aroid Society about Philodendron Billietiae, and different forms of it, including a form that looks much like P. Spiritus Sancti he called ‘P. Billietiae Var. Espiritu Sancti’. These NOID plants looked a bit similar to it aside from a few details, so I reached out to Joep and sent him photos of these plants, asking his opinion on them. Since the publishing of that article, I was told  that he and Dr. Croat are under the impression that the P. Billietie var. Espiritu Sancti is NOT a Billietiae form, but something they are calling Philodendron Purpurescens, which is in process of being described. Joep believes that these NOID are related to the P. Purpurescens, with the key difference being the undulated (wavy) leaves these plants have

Aroids enjoy moderately warm and humid climates. The plant shown here lives in an environment that is approximately 70F, and around 85% humidity.

All plants are shipped with their roots wrapped in Sphagnum Moss, a paper towel, and plastic wrap to retain moisture for the root system. Foliage is then wrapped in a soft material, and then the whole plant is wrapped in black tissue paper to secure the plant from movement in the box.

Upon arrival to your home, check the roots for any signs of damage or rot. If rot appears, trim the affected roots with clean scissors or pruning shears, and plant into the new pot with the above specified growing media. We recommend waiting a day to water your new plant after repotting, as this will reduce the risk of root rot.
